With all the different approaches in tackling health care reform, President Obama takes another route and this time involving the public. Obviously, the private discussions between the House of Representatives and the Senate did not resolve anything. So for a change, last February 25, the half-day-long discussion on healthcare was televised live on C-SPAN. Also this time, Republicans were included in the negotiations.

Admittedly, most Republicans in Congress had publicly announced that they had no intention of voting for the medical insurance changes no matter what. Therefore, in hopes to prove that he will not be biased with this matter, the President encouraged the Republicans to step up and provide their…

Indeed, always being positive is a good attitude. However, the optimism of Governor Charlie Crist seems to have taken a lot of negative critiques. Many say that Crist’s $69.2 billion state budget proposal for 2010-11 is full of pie-eyed optimism when Florida badly needs hard-headed realism.

The governor also refuses to consider layoffs, pay cuts, furloughs or increases in insurance premiums for state workers, and insists on paying bonuses to teachers. However, a lot said that this won’t work with private-sector employers and workers who have seen their pay and benefits decrease or their businesses go under and their jobs recede.

Sen. Mike Haridopolos, R-Merritt Island, offered the refreshing view of a…

As you know, Cover Florida was specially designed to assist the state’s 3.8 million uninsured residents by providing an affordable and accessible alternative to expensive health insurance plans. After a year of service though, its leading insurer wants to raise premiums by 30 percent, citing figures showing a predicted 23 percent loss at the existing rates.

“We’re losing quite a bit of money,” said Randy Kammer, vice president of regulatory affairs and public policy for Jacksonville-based Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida. “For every dollar that we take in, we lose almost a dollar and a quarter with the administrative and the health expenses with the products.”

The state’s Office of…

As we all cannot expect for a rush change in the health care industry, a few organizations attempt different ways on how they can lower health insurance premium. For instance, the Student Health and Counseling Center is working to reduce insurance costs for students.

Last Tuesday, the UNM Student Health Insurance Committee members gather to discuss how to make health insurance affordable with benefits. Beverly Kloeppel, Student Health Center director, said students need health insurance because health care is expensive without it.

“You really don’t have to have some major health problem. All you have to do is have an accident — fall on a skateboard, hit your head on a bike…

In the past when I’m writing insurance articles about dental plans, all I do is convince everyone to get this plan. But now, I’m glad to learn that most individuals are very much willing to get this type of plan. They have now acknowledged the fact that dental insurance plan is not a waste of money. Instead, it would help them save up on expenses when it comes to their dental needs.

Nowadays, even regular dental treatments like teeth cleaning are being charged at a higher rate. However, when you have your own private dental plan, you could extensively cut back on the cost. A private dental coverage is a policy…

Last Wednesday, about 30 state House Republican lawmakers pushed the passing of legislation that would guarantee Pennsylvanians the right to choose health care plans, regardless of federal mandates.

“Do you want Obamacare?” said Rep. Matthew Baker, R-Tioga County, the bill’s sponsor. “Do you want to pay higher taxes? Do you want less quality in heath care?”

Brett Marcy, a spokesman for House Majority Whip Todd Eachus, D-Luzerne County, called the bill ‘hollow political bluster’. “It seems the state House Republicans are only interested in perpetuating the right-wing propaganda of their national party,” Marcy said. “The voters are tired of these lies and scare tactics, and they’re tired of this kind of extremist…

When people discuss about their insurance plans, we bet most of them would talk about their life, vehicle, and health insurance. That’s because those are the basic plans that most families need. However if you own a business, here’s a plan you should get familiar with: casualty insurance.

Casualty insurance is also known as liability insurance and is not necessarily concerned with life, health, or even property insurances. It generally covers damage to property of individuals or organizations. Moreover, it also offers coverage for aviation, boiler and machinery, glass and crime, and marine insurance for shipwrecks, as well as terrorism and political risk insurances. Earthquakes are also covered by this type…

As officials try to manage the government budget, their ways have drawn many criticisms especially those that involve reducing health care services to the poor. In a recent proposal, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer wants to cut 300,000 people from their health care plan.

According to Dr. Joseph Goldberger, chief medical officer for the Yavapai Regional Medical Center and a rheumatologist with a private practice, 15 to 20 percent of his patients are insured by the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System, the Arizona equivalent of Medicaid. By now, AHCCCS fees to doctors have been frozen, he said.

“The untold story is patients with or without insurance continue to get the care,” Goldberger…

Have you heard the news? Due to the public budget deficit, local officials are planning to eliminate subsidy for Arizona’s KidsCare, the state health program that covers 47,000 children of the working poor. Gov. Jan Brewer initiated this plan to cope with Arizona’s $5-billion budget shortfall. Now the question is how then can these uninsured low-income families deal with the situation? It looks like they have only two options: take their children to crowded community clinics or to hospital emergency rooms.

If you think that’s the worst, continue reading to find more about the cost-cutting methods that would affect Arizona health care. Another program facing cuts is Arizona Health Care Cost…
